How do I get photos of my layouts into my computer?
If you have a digital camera:

You will need to use the cables and software that came with your digital camera to transfer the stored image from your camera to your computer. Once your layout photo has been transferred to your hard drive, open it using photo-imaging software.

If you have a film camera:
Have your photo developer save your photos to a disk when you take your film to be developed. You may also use a flatbed scanner to scan your image into your computer. When scanning your photo, adjust the resolution setting to 72 dpi. Adjust the scale of the image to be no larger than 9 inches x 6 inches (648x432 pixels).

To resize your layout photo (in Photoshop Elements):
Drag the photo into the Photoshop Elements icon.
Click Resize.
Resolution needs to be 72. If it isn’t, uncheck Resample Image Box.
Type 72.
Then recheck Resample Image Box.
Change width between 200 and 300, usually 300.

How do I save my photos in JPEG or GIF format?
Photographic images can be saved on a computer in many different formats, including BMP, TIFF, PSD, GIF, EPS, PCT and PCD. The online submission form only accepts images saved in JPEG format. Images saved in JPEG format are said to be "Web compressed," "Web optimized" or simply "saved for the Web." An image saved in this format will have a file name that looks like Springt_Layout1.jpg or Spring_Layout1.jpeg. Most digital cameras save your pictures in the JPEG format.

If your photos are not saved in JPEG format, they must be converted using photo-imaging software. To do this, open a photo in your photo-imaging software (such as Adobe Photoshop, Corel Photo-Paint, Jasc Paint Shop Pro or Microsoft Digital Image Suite). Choose Save As or Save for Web and specify that you wish to save your photo as a JPEG.

My image has a file size greater than 100k. How can I reduce the file size?
If your JPEG or GIF image exceeds 100k, try reducing the width and height of the image. Another option is to resave the JPEG or GIF using a higher level of compression.
