Embracing white space
Embracing white space is not something I do well nor does it come naturally to me.
I usually like to fill up a layout with paper and embellishments and leave no space uncovered!
But every now and then I get the urge to branch out and try something different than my normal style.
This layout is one of those occasions and I like how it turned out!
But there is alot of white space on this layout and it was hard to resist the temptation to pull out some patterned paper and fill that space! :)

Supplies: Patterned paper, epoxy stickers (KI Memories), alphabet stickers (Doodlebug, KI Memories), bookplate & brads (Junkitz), misc (embroidery floss, paint). Photograph by Elizabeth Bailey
So can you embrace white space?? Have you tried something different than your norm lately??
Go for it!
Have a great weekend! gretchen Gretchen McElveen

fashion infused
While looking through the current issue of Vogue, I fell in love with this ad. I was inspired by the combination of colors and paint feel. Fashion sets the trends for a lot of fields including scrapbooking! The colors that are "in" at the moment in the industry are right in line with the colors of the season: yellow, grey, patterns, etc. I must confess they are some of my favorite colors as well! Have fun with this ad as an inspiration jump start to your creativity! Since I love paint so much I used the paint element of the layout but you can easily use the color combinations, the typography, or layout of the ad as a base for your layout. :) Have a great weekend! xo Supplies:Cardstock (American Crafts);Embellishments (Jenni Bowlin bingo card); Ink (Adirondack Current and colorwash Butterscotch);Paint (Making Memories);Pattern Paper (Sassafrass Lass);Stamps(Art Classified); Stickers (American Crafts remarks and Fabric/Vinyl thickers) Veronica Jennings

Batter Up!
No this isn't about a cake recipe.... Or about a baseball game really... It is about those trading card holders that you see by the baseball cards, hockey cards, Pokemon cards, etc. I bought these holders for a friend's son since he was collecting hockey cards. While I was looking at them, I thought they would be really cool to add into my own albums. I could not resist and kept a few for myself. I love adding layers both inside and outside the pockets. The butterfly, fabric flower, and "love" rub-on are on the outside. I used a card to journal on the front but I also wrote some details on the backs of the pictures, telling little tales about my two friends. They are such a cool little page that really adds interest to your own
album. You can make it double sided since the back is clear. So easy
to capture a month at a glance or even a week at a glance. These
holders could also be used for your ATC cards. I am hooked and loving
pulling these out to play. You can find them in most discount stores, sporting goods stores, or even online. I would love to see your creations with these trading cards holders here in the gallery! supplies: brads (Queen & Co), chipboard (Scenic Route), Eyelets (Making Memories), Ink (Tim Holtz Distress inks by Ranger) Pattern Paper (Fancy Pants, Me & My Big Ideas, Sassafras Lass), Pen (Stampin' Up!). Punches (Fiskars, Martha Stewart), Rub-Ons (Hambly Studios, Jenni Bowlin), Stamps (Purple Onion Designs, Making Memories), Sticker Letters (Making Memories), Tags (Avery), Tape (7 Gypsies), Misc (Music sheet, Fabric Flower by Me). Crop Calling Cards
One of my favorite things about scrapbooking is getting to meet so many other scrapbookers. I have had some of the best conversations and met some of my very best friends at crops or even the isles of craft stores. I love to keep in touch with my friends online and take peeks at their current projects. Another great love of mine is for vintage calling cards and business cards. I love making "Crop Cards" to give out to new scrapping friends. It is the perfect way to make sure that you can keep in touch with your favorite creative friends. My cards are 3x4 inches and include on the back my name, blog address, email address, gallery info and telephone number. You can even make gorgeous ones digitally with the beautiful free digital kits offered here. Memory Makers Free Digital Kits These would be a great requirement for your next crop and have everyone
trade. A great bonus is having another terrific way to use your
scraps. If you make some of your own I would love to see them. Drop me a link! Enjoy! Love, Melissa Melissa Blair

Summer's Scraps
I can’t bear to throw away any paper, even the smallest scraps. I have a large flat basket that sits right under my desk and once paper is cut all the extras go straight into the basket. I am proud to say I reach for my basket often. I make frequent use of my scraps by making lots of cards. I tend to be a slow scrapbooker and I really enjoy making cards because they give me a sense of completion. Today I dug into my basket pulling out many of my favorite patterns and made two cards.

(Supply List: Bazzill cardstock, October Afternoon Cardstock and stamp, Ink VersaFine, Ribbon from SEI, Rubon from Scenic Route and JoAnn’s Eyelet)

(Supply List: Bazzill cardstock, October Afternoon patterned paper and die cut, American Crafts Stickers, Rhinestones from Kaiser Craft, pop dots)
So what are you waiting for go get your scraps and put them to good use on your next layout, card or mini album. I hope you have a fabulous wonderful Wednesday. Keep your fingers crossed that my MMM prize package arrives today I can't wait to dive into all the goodies.
Cheers,

Summer Fullerton

Reuse, Reuse, Reuse!
I love finding ways to reuse things around me so that they do not end up in landfills. (This will probably be the first of lots of blog posts that I address this. ;) ) Well, the other day I was the snack mom for soccer. I was in a rush and ended up having to buy pre-cut and bagged apple slices. I hated to purchase something that used so much packaging, but just didn't have a choice that day. So, after all of the treats were devoured I was left with three of these boxes.

I decided that they could house some of my son's MANY small toys that lay around our house. But I didn't have any adhesive remover and didn't feel like spending an hour trying to peel off the label. So, I made my own label to cover it!
I began by cutting an oval from another piece of packaging that I'd saved. It's from a pack of alphabet letter stickers.

I placed a chipboard letter in the center and added a few embellishments. I ended up with "B" for blocks...

I made another one with 'C' for cars...

And then I grabbed a plastic container that originally housed nectarines from the grocery store and placed his markers in it.

There are so many possibilities for using packaging like this. Aside from toys, small embellishments, buttons or ribbon could be placed in them in your scraproom.
While I probably will buy more earth friendly packaging when I can, I know that I will continue to reuse the plastics that I do purchase. They can go from trash to treasure and help keep me organized as well!!

Thanks for stopping by! ~Anabelle Anabelle O’Malley

Can't wait to escape.
Happy Monday everyone! I cannot believe it is the beginning of September already, which means it is getting closer to October when Greg and I go to the Outer Banks for our 10 year anniversary! The Outer Banks is a very special place to us, it is where we spent our honeymoon and we took the boys there two years ago. This layout is from that last trip, just a special moment I captured of Greg and Nate taking a walk collecting seashells.
Most of the product on this page is older and I point this out for a reason. Most of us have a certain paper or embellishment that we have been hoarding (for me it was the Foof-a-la patterned paper, bought whenever I saw it on clearance) and I challenge you to get it out and USE IT! Plus once you use up some of your old favorites you can reward yourself with some new favorites ;)
I created the swirls with an everywhere hole punch you usually use for setting eyelets and then backed the whole layout with a piece of blue cardstock.
Have a great week, Christine :) Christine Drumheller

1,000 WORDS
I think we‘ve all heard the saying, “a picture is worth 1,000 words.” It’s an old proverb that refers to the idea that a picture can tell a story without any words.
In scrapbooking, sometimes we want to actually write those words down. Even with a powerful photograph, we often want to capture more of the who, what, where, when, and why.
Journaling is not always an easy part of scrapbooking. It can be a challenge to tell the story in a fun and interesting way. To spark some ideas and inspiration, I would like to start this week off with a journaling prompt.
To begin, find some favorite photos; maybe of a recent birthday celebration, a new school outfit for your child, or family game night.
Lay the photos out in front of you. Grab a notebook and write down some words that come to mind. For example, if you are looking at birthday photos words like cake, presents, balloons, and excitement are a good place to start.
Take one of those words, like cake, and start free-form journaling. Write down details like where you purchased the cake or who made the cake, what was the theme, how many people wanted a corner piece…just anything that comes up. Do this for several of your words.
The final step is just deciding what you want to include on your page. Create several journaling blocks and add all of the words you listed. Or, choose just one word to create the focus of your page.
If you happen to create a layout using this journaling prompt, feel free to post it in the idea gallery. Link us back here so we can view your beautiful work.
Have a wonderful and creative week! Sincerely, Kim Frantz

Mini album madness
At the beginning of the summer I put myself on a scrapbooking-supplies-spending freeze.
Believe me, it has been a tough summer! :)
I told myself I was not allowed to buy anymore mini-albums or stamps until I at least use some of the ones I already have.
So that has lead me to mini-album madness! I have been making them like crazy!
I thought I would share one of my latest ones.
This is an album for my husband's grandmother. There was a big party for her birthday earlier this year & this album has pictures from that event in it. I hope she will love it!

Here are a few pages from the album:

Supplies: Maya Road 4x4 mini-album; Jenni Bowlin patterned papers, stickers, journaling cards, bingo card, stamp; Kaiser Craft pearl embellishments & flowers; Bazzill cardstock; Making Memories glitter alphabet stickers. All supplies (excluding mini-album) are from the Jenni Bowlin August papercrafting kit.
I will share another mini-album next time.
Looks like I am going to be able to come off my mini-album-buying freeze soon...still need to work on the stamps though!
Have a great weekend!

Stitched Borders
Hi. Anabelle here. :) If you haven't yet noticed I love incorporating texture and dimension on my pages! With all of the fun products out there these days, there's lots of ways to do that. One of my tried and true techniques is to handstitch on my work. It takes a little extra time, but it's definitely worth it. I created this page today and used several different stitches on the borders. (This layout is about our little hamster Egg. We got him when my son was 2 and he named him after his favorite food. Anyway, Egg went to the great beyond in July.)

If you look closely, you can see how I incorporated several stitch types on the borders. In this shot, I used oversewing to stitch the border of the vertical stripe on the left.

Here is the stitching I did on the tag. I used a backstitch for this one.

And finally, I used a running stitch around the border of the page itself.

If you google 'sewing stitches' you will find lots of sites with visuals on how to do each of the stitches. Seeing step by step pictures really helped me learn how to do them.
I have a couple of pieces of advice if you decide to do some stitching. First, use a needle and make the holes first. I do this by laying my page on a mouse pad and piercing it that way. Next, stitch each layer before you adhere it to the next one. That way you don't have to pierce through too many papers.
So, grab some embroidery floss and a needle. Stitched layouts are only a few moments away!
Thanks for stopping by ~Anabelle
