Hello from Melissa Blair

Hi Everyone! I guess I should take a second to introduce myself. I'm Melissa Blair. I live in Arkansas with my husband, Brandon, and sweet daughter Belle. We also have 2 kittens named Olive and Duchess Marie. I started scrapbooking traditionally about 6 years ago after my daughter was born. I have to say that most of my craftiness comes from my mom, Jane, who is an amazing crafter. I remember she was always ready to help with a craft or art project when I was growing up. I think having that background is what made me a bit fearless when I started scrapbooking. I enjoy scrapbooking everyday life and I am so excited to share my work this year. The layout I am sharing today is a perfect example of my love for everyday moments. “Belle @ Play” tells the story of Belle's current obsession with the computer.  I like adding the "@" in the title like her email address.  I listed her favorite websites and I think one day she will look back and crack up at all the time she spent on webkinz. I also included how Belle's favorite font, Smiley Monster, looks at the bottom. I think it is the tiny touches that you add to a layout that makes them special. I hope you find a little inspiration in this page. Make a layout of your children's favorite websites or yours! Enjoy! Love, M

Introductions Continued

Hi! Happy Tuesday. I'm Anabelle O'Malley and it's my turn to introduce myself. I live in Delaware with my wonderful husband and my five year old son (who starts kindergarten today, sniff sniff). I've always loved papercrafting and have made cards and scrapbook pages since I was little. When I was in college I used to cut phrases out of magazines and add them to my photo albums. I held off on 'formally' scrapping because I knew once I started it would become an addiction. I was so right! I made my first pages four years ago and haven't looked back since! I guess you can describe my style as detailed, textured and a little bit shabby. I love color and layers and trying new techniques. But, photos and stories drive my pages, too. My family thinks my camera has become another part of my body! I'm just thrilled to be an MMM and look forward to this exciting year!

Here is a page I made about me. I like doing these 'snapshot' kind of pages every once in a while. We have to see where we are, to know where we are going. ;)

Well, that's it for me. Thanks for stopping by!

Let's get this party started!

We all decided to pick a day to be our day to post for the week (with three of us floating) and I picked Monday, so for the most part we will be pretty consistent with who blogs on what day. I thought I would start my first post off by sharing a little about myself. I am 37 years old, have been married to my sweetie Greg for 10 years (in Oct.). We have two boys Nate 6, Zach 3 and one 12 year old furry son named Deli Joe who is a miniature schnauzer/terrier mix. We live on the west side of MI about 20 minutes from Lake Michigan. I have been scrapbooking as far back as I can remember (in some form or another) but really got into when Nate was born. I love to create layouts, cards, mini albums and I can't wait to share what I create with all of you! I am constantly reorganizing also - so I promise to share any tips or tricks I come across. This is something I discovered the other day: You can use a piece of the Hambly "clearly heavy" overlay as a surface to store your acrylic stamps on. I just clipped it in a clipboard which I hung on my wall by my scrap desk and placed my stamps on it. I love how they are out where I can see them and within easy reach! I am looking forward to a year of sharing ideas and inspiration with you all, have a great Monday! -Christine :)

Faux Mosaic Technique
Here is a super fun and super easy project I thought I would share.

To recreate this tag you will need: 1 Medium sized Office Tag, a 1″ square scallop punch by Martha Stewart, patterned papers by Webster Page’s and Tera Leigh’s Faux Mosaic Kit by Ranger, 1 Flower and a piece of ribbon.

Instructions:

  • Using a paint brush cover your project with Faux Mosaic Grout; let dry.
  • Using a paint brush cover entire tag with Faux Mosaic Glue; let dry.
  • Punch enough scallop squares to cover entire tag and arrange onto tag making sure to apply Faux Mosaic Glue to the back of each scallop square; let dry.
  • Using a paint brush cover entire altered tag with Mosaic Glue; let dry.
  • Cover each scallop square with Faux Mosaic Tile Glaze; let dry.

I hope you give this technique a try. I think any project using this faux mosaic technique will certainly be a cherished gift by it’s recipient.

Have fun!

Hee-Yaw!!

Who would have thunk it?  My girls LOVE martial arts!  We've tried soccer, various forms of dance, gymnastics, cheerleading, swimming, art...from our experience...the term "uncoachable" was coined for my oldest.  I met another mother with an "uncoachable" child and she told me about Tae Kwon Do.  Like the forgotten pains of birth...I signed the child up for another sport to try out.

Skye went from refusal to get out of car, to entering the shop with arms tightly crossed and seething, to sobs and sobs of tears in the dressing room.  A month long commitment had been made and I reminded her of the family mantra "Austin's don't quit" ...really for my own benefit because honestly...all I could think was...omg!  A month of this!?  Joyous.

In walks the instructor...which shocked me because all I wanted to do was flee the scene with squealing tires!  In 15 seconds he rectified the situatcion to snibbles...and moments later got her out on the floor giggling.  Dumbfounded...I watched.  She was awkward.  She was shy and nervous.  But she did it!  I was floored!  My youngest begged to join too...so...here they are.  Five sessions in.  Kickin' it!  But more importantly, LOVIN' it!  Blessed be!

Took some impossible photos in the dimly lit gym:  TriX 400 pushed to iso 3200:  100 ss @ f/4

Happy scrapping!  Love, Tracy Austin

Getting funky with scraps

My favorite scrapping comes when there is no rhyme or reason to the design...just playing with what's lying around.  I like taking remnants destined for the trash and working them as the foundation for a layout.  The only thing that matters when scrapping like this is making sure everything is balanced.

Salvaged from the trash were two sheets of paper:  One, a white sheet of cardstock that I used to test a technique for another layout (using Tattered Angels Glitter Mist and KI lace cardstock to make clouds).  The other was the remnant paper from the Heather Bailey collection that I had cut circles from.  Once the foundation is laid...just start sprinkling with embellishments lying around your office:)

You just add, add, and add until there is balance.  You know when you're done adding when the last element added sticks out like a sore thumb...remove and you're done:)

Happy scrapping!  Love, Tracy Austin

Funky Edges
I have this thing about the edges of my scrapbook pages. I either want to tear and ink, cut out a pattern, or just dress them up. I hope it's not a sign that I'm having a girl cause I'm really really hoping for a baby boy this time. I had fun creating this one... it's in PINK!! Oh no... another sign? haha.

Anyway the papers are a mix of old and new: Autumn Leaves, Pink Paislee (there we go again), Basic Grey, and Heidi Swapp. Chipboard by Scrapping Outback, word strips by Theressa Collins.

Desperate times...

call for desperate measures! LOL

I went away to GASC in Michigan last week.
It was absolutely BEAUTIFUL there...weather, downtown area, the hotel.
Oh My...the hotel was hard-core fancy-schmancy!
And here I come in cut-off jean capris! Oh well...they're my fave! ;)

My weekend consisted of:
teaching classes, shopping the show floor, dinners with the GASC & MM folks, shopping at a crazy-huge lss, teaching classes some more, checking out the downtown shops, hunting for diet coke, and of course...scrapping!

Actually, I didn't take any scrap supplies with me b/c I usually am too busy & tired to scrap on these weekends away. But I was feeling particularly inspired and got a bit...desperate! LOL :) I ended up searching through magazines for a picture that I could scrap! I know, I know...it sounds pitiful. But luckily I was still reading a June woman mag and it had wedding tidbits in it! I chopped a great little generic wedding-ish pic out and it totally gave me an opportunity to tell a story that I needed to put in my album, but hadn't b/c I haven't been sure how to tell the story without pics. Catch-22, see? :)

So, ultimately...here's what I came up with...

This is 98% product that I bought right there on the shopping floor at GASC! And its really more about the journaling, but of course...yummy goodies are always fun to scatter about! :)

So, pics or not...get your scrappy groove on! ;) Have a great day! ...Staci :)

A Mini Mini
I was going through my scrapbook stash a few days ago and I came across some chipboard tags from CherryArte. I had looked at these several times before, but hadn't used any of them yet. I thought to myself, "These are so cute, but what to do with them?" And then inspiration hit.

Here's what I came up with. A MINI Mini Album of Josie's first six months.

I love the way this turned out and it was a really fun and quick project. I plan to keep it in my purse, so I can show off my little cutie-pa-tootie to friends, family and complete strangers. :-)

Amy

additional supplies used:
3-d embellishments (American Crafts) • eyelets (Stampin' Up!) • number stickers (Making Memories) • paint (Making Memories, Ranger) • patterned paper (Autumn Leaves) • transparent die-cuts (Fancy Pants Designs)

Got ugly buttons?

I certainly have my share of uglies floating in my bowl of beloved buttons.  Don't throw them out.  Use them as a makeshift pop-dot to add dimension to a card or layout. Simply adhere a button to an element you wish to raise up and then glue the button to your project.  Note the chipboard pink kiss in the center of the flower raised up with a button:

An easy project to use up your ribbon scraps

If you save every last bit of ribbon like I do you can end up storing a lot of scraps. I made this canvas to showcase some new Maya Road trims for CHA but scraps will work too. If you have some that are too small to run the entire length of the canvas try sewing some together to form one long strand of ribbon. This would add texture and interest to your project.

Have a great weekend. It's gonna be a scorcher here in Texas.
Lisa
