Star Tin Ornament
Stars seem to be the theme this year in our house. I created this so simple Star ornament using once again a page from a Maya Road Star Chipboard Album and an empty tin that once held Ribbon Slides.

Products Needed:
Maya Road Star Chipboard Album
Tin
Patterned Paper (I used Daisy D's)
Maya Road Velvet Ric Rac
4 Small Silver Jingle Bells
4 Silver Jump Rings
1 Silver Eyelet
Vintage Mica
Holly Leaves
Vintage Mercury Glass Bead
Star Dust Stickles

Tools Needed:
Craft Knife
Crop-a-Dile
Paper Piercer
Pliers
Hot Glue Gun
Sanding Block

Instructions:
  1. Cover front and back of Star with Patterned Paper (I adhere one side of the star to the paper then use my craft knife to cut out the star, repeat the same process to the back of the star)
  2. Using a Sanding Block sand all the edges of your Star
  3. Using a crop-a-dile or other hole punch, punch a hole at the top of your star and set an eyelet
  4. Using a paper piercer place 4 small holes (one on each point) near the end of the four remaining star points
  5. Thread the jingle bells onto the jump rings and attach to the star points
  6. Place patterned paper inside of tin, accent using Star Dust Stickles
  7. Add a little Vintage Mica, place lid on tin
  8. Using a hot glue gun attach holly leaves and Vintage Mercury Glass Beads to tin
  9. Using a hot glue gun attach tin to front center of your Star Ornament
  10. Create the ornaments hanger using Maya Road Velvet Ric Rac
Happy Holidays,

Yesterday To Liven Up Our Week My Sister And I Decided To Do A Funky Thursdaydressing Up Doing Our Hair All Weird
Yesterday, to liven up our week, my sister and I decided to do a "Funky Thursday"...dressing up, doing our hair all weird, etc. It was really fun, until we realized it was actually...well, uh. Friday. (oops.) LOL---I guess we'll have to call it Funky Friday now.

More to the point...I was wearing a green combo and needed some hair accessories, so I decided to pull out some Prima flowers and make some. Here's how:

First, gather up some flowers that are small-ish and will fit on a bobby pin.

Next, layer the flowers until you're happy with 'em, and glue them together.

You could hot glue this together, but hot glue scares me. So I used wire. I just stuck it through the center of the flower where the little slit is, curled the end with the wire cutters, and used the other end to wrap around the bobby pin. (Am I explaining this well enough? LOL.)

And there are the finished bobby pins. Enjoy! :)

Family Time

It's been a while since I have posted here. And I have not been able to visit other blogs too. That's because we just got home from a family vacation and I had to double up on work before leaving for our vacation. Now that I'm back, I have over 800 unopened emails in my inbox, about 14 layouts to finish before the year ends, projects to post, and 2 more events to finish. Yikes.

I probably won't be able to get back to normal till the end of the year so I really appologize for my absence in the forums, egroups, and blogs.

Anyway, just want to share with you a picture from our trip to Hongkong Disneyland.

Growing up...

It happens.

Too fast. But it happens.

These kids are growing up! Declan has always had long hair. It suits him...his rocker-skater vibe. (Did I mention that he wants to skateboard to kindergarten next year?) But he recently asked to get a "short cut". So, I pulled a bunch of pics, let him choose a hair cut and off to the kiddie hair place we went.

He did great. Lots of grins for photographer mom, watched the cartoon, sat still. In the end, he loves it...got exactly what he wanted. As for me, I hate it. Hate that he already feels peer pressure to conform. But I respect his wish to be like his friends right now as he's forming all these ideals of what makes him Declan.

And of course, he's the most adorable little guy I've ever seen no matter what! :)

Clear Ornament
Talk about cute and fun to make but a real bugger to photograph... sorry about the image. I did my best and this is as good as it gets. I plan on making lots of these ornaments using family photos and attaching them to gifts this holiday season. You should really give these a try. The hardest part is deciding which photo to use.

Supplies Needed:
Clear Ornaments
Transparency
Maya Road Rubons
Ribbon
Faux Snow

Tools Needed:
Coluzzle (circle)

Instructions:

  1. Print wallet sized photos in greyscale onto transparency
  2. Cut out photo using your Coluzzle or other form of circle cutter to appropriate size for your ornament
  3. Roll up transparency and place inside of ornament (you might need to flatten it out just a bit, I used the eraser on top of a pencil)
  4. Add Faux Snow to inside of ornament
  5. Using Rubons place a word or date along the front of the ornament
  6. Tie a bow to the hanger
Enjoy. You have an adorable personalized holiday ornament.

Did you know that acrylic paint can serve as an adhesive?

Well...you do now;)  Learned this little gem of a tidbit from, Franny Lesniak, a fellow designer at LifetimeMoments.com.  She would paint the back of transparencies to adhere them to her layouts.  I was in the mood to test acrylic paint's holding power with buttons...and happy to report that those little puppies are stuck for good!

Simply tilt your project so the surface is level, apply a generous amount of paint onto the surface, quickly slap on the buttons, sprinkle with glitter and leave to dry for about 15 minutes.  (The generous amount of paint and working quickly ensures that the paint doesn't dry up on you.)  How easy is that!?  Happy creating!

Supplies:

Adhesives:  Zip Dry, Mod Podge, and MM acrylic paint;)
Paper:  Doodlebug
Ribbon:  Strano
Pins:  Fancy Pants
Buttons:  Autumn Leaves and MME
Metal accents:  MM
Glitter:  Doodlebug

Love, Tracy Austin

nutcracker mini album
Wow... it's finally over.  Back in August Clara found out that she was going to be in the Nutcracker perfomance (The Great Russian Nutcracker with the Moscow Ballet).  December seemed so far away at that point.  So, after 10 Saturdays filled with classes and rehearsals, yesterday was the big day.  The kids did soooo good!  I was backstage for the first show.  But for the second show I was in the audience.  I have to tell you that I was a weapy mess during that show.  I was just so proud of all of those children... even the ones I didn't know well.  After 10 Saturdays of hanging out together all day, you begin to feel a little like family (okay... I'm getting a little goofy here... but you know what I mean).  I still well up just thinking about last night.  Sigh.. I'm just a sap I guess!  :-)

Anyway... I started going through some of the pictures I took last night and I thought I would try to do something fun with them to give Clara for Christmas.  With how late it is in the month and all of the stuff I still have left to do, I wasn't sure how I was going to pull it off.  Then I found Anna Russell's Merry Memories Quick Page Album at Scrapartist.  It was exactly what I needed... 4x6 quick pages!  I've been dragging and dropping photos in all evening and I'm just about ready to print!

Here are a couple of the pages...

(black borders are on these only to define the edges of these pages since the blog has a white background)

I hope she likes her little photo album!

Have a great week!!

Santa Wear

I just love all the festive holiday wear this time of year. I couldn't resist this adorable Santa dress for Ashlyn. She literally wore it for two years straight. In the heat of the summer, she would pull it out and put it on! I finally convinced her this year that it was a little too small but fortunately, I had found an identical one in a bigger size for this year! HO! HO! HO!

i left my heart in san francisco.

sfmm.jpg

hello from san francisco! i came up here this weekend to visit some frends, people watch, walk around, take photos, ride some cable cars, and eat to my heart's content (especially that). i just adore this city. i love the bay area. every time i come up here, i fall in love with this place even more. i love the people, i love the culture, i love the "chill" feel, i love the charm, and i even love the fact that it's cold here (well...that's only because i'm from southern california, ha). i'm sad i come later today, but i'm sure i'll be back within the next few months! until then, i'm sure i'll have fun scrapping the many pictures drom this trip!

3D Star Ornament
This is a really easy ornament to create. I used two pages from a Maya Road Star Chipboard Coaster Album, Glitter (no big surprise there), Martha Stewart Seam Binding, Vintage Mica, Beads from Vintage Glass Garland, Ranger Acrylic Paint Dabbers in Silver and some artificial holly leaves I found at my local craft store.

Here is a quick tutorial if you want to give this a try. You can create 4 - 3D Star Ornaments from one Maya Road Star Coaster Album.
  • Score the center of two Maya Road Chipboard Stars then gently bend the stars forward
  • Paint the front, back and edges of each star
  • Using a hot glue gun attach the two stars together at the center crease
  • Cover entire star with Mod Podge
  • Cover entire star with Glitter (this is the really fun part)
  • Once the glitter is dry, cover the top or your star with Vintage Mica
  • Using your hot glue gun attach three Holly Leaves to the top of your glittered star
  • Using your hot glue gun attach two Vintage Glass Garland Beads
  • Create a bow and hanger for your Star Ornament using Seam Binding
  • Using a hot glue gun attach Seam Binding bow and hanger to the top of your now finished 3D Star Ornament
I plan on hanging mine from my lamp turn switch to add a little bit of holiday sparkle when the lamp is on.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

My Wish

I'm tickled pink that my layout which features a picture of me with my daughter Nicole landed on the cover of the January Issue. This is very special because it is one of the very few nice pictures I have of myself with my daughter.

Anyway, I just wanted to share the other layout I submitted for the call. The one which was not chosen obviously. :) I love this picture of her. Here it is...
