Book Giveaway! Paper + Pixels
GIVEAWAY CLOSED
I am very excited to announce that the newest Memory Makers Book is due to hit our warehouse this week! That book is
Paper + Pixels
by May Flaum and Audrey Neal. In it you’ll learn how to create hybrid scrapbook layouts, meaning that they have both digital and traditional elements to them. May and Audrey do a terrific job of starting simple (with cool stuff that you can do in Microsoft Word) and building to more intermediate techniques (using Photoshop Elements). So no matter how little or much you want to jump into the hybrid world, you’ll find what you’re looking for.
And as a super terrific bonus, this book includes a CD with 10 digital kits and 2 digital template kits. The kits, designed by well-known digital designers including
Katie Pertiet
and
Michelle Coleman
, offer all sorts of goodies to help you get started.
In fact, I dove into the hybrid world this weekend, using a photo frame from the kit by
Kim Christensen
that's included on the CD. It was very exciting, really. And while my first steps were small (the only other digital element on this layout is the journaling I printed onto patterned paper), I can tell already that I might just get hooked.
What sorts of digital elements do you include in your layouts? Or what would you like to learn about the world of digital or hybrid?
And check back later this week for more layouts inspired by this book and for an interview with the authors.
Until next time,
Christine
Layout journaling reads: Well, actually Ivan {hearts} French toast. In fact, he told the Ihop servers that he wanted French toast about three times before it was actually time for us to order. And by the way, if you order French toast for Ivan, don't bother with the kid's portion. Go ahead and get the full two slices. He
really
loves French toast. December 2007, special day for Ivan's 4th birthday
Papers: K&Company, BoBunny, BasicGrey
Digital kit: from

I was a paper scrapper for about 2 years - have all the 'stuff'. Then found digital, and been doing that exclusively for three years. So I would love to reasonably combine the two - more ideas and inspiration would help me use all the paper 'stuff' which includes, stamps, punches, scissors, embossing templates, markers, pens, paper, paper, paper! Doing digital exclusively leaves me yearning for the feel of paper - but is sometimes easier to do than a totally IRL layout. So I would love this book as a starting point for combining my two passions.

I am a digital scrapper pretty much exclusively, and one element I use 95% of the time is a frame. I pic my picture and my frame (or frames) and THEN the background, and go from there.

I love to play around with my photos before I print them. I like to add frames and bling to them using my digital elements.
I also love to use digital journaling spots on my LO's. They are so cute and fun!!!

I am looking forward to this book. Right now I do journaling and some titles on my PC and some photo manipulation. I would really like to learn more about colorizing pictures and printing my journaling in different shapes. Also using some of the cool brushes I always see in the mag. and have no idea how to make them look right on one of my pages.

I am really a paper scrapper and expect to stay such (I love the look and feel of the paper in my hands and stuff!); however, I virtually never complete a layout without using my computer, whether it be editing a photo, creating a title treatment or journaling...I find creative ways to use word art and text boxes all the time. I, too, have a folder of digital kits collected, but haven't put them to use yet. Maybe this book would help.

What doesn't go on a digital LO? if it goes on a paper LO it can go on a digital one too! I love adding frames, ribbons and glitter, as well as special touches like scans of memorabilia without the bulk and worry about whether it is acid-free. I love digital scrapping, and even better is to print the gorgeous goodies out and combine them with all of the traditional 3D embellishments!

Looks like an awesome, must-have book. For me, pictures are where the page starts, so I'd love some tips on fixing and enhancing photos. I started as a paper scrapper and turned digi, but I still love actually touching and working with my hands, so hybrid is definitely something that I'm interested in. Great job!

Congrats on the new book. I'd love to get it, to learn how to add digital elements, such as typing titles, and learning how to put text where I want it on my layout. (especially if you don't have a wide format printer). I have one layout in particular, I want to put a title on a dog bone (cut from cardstock) but all letter stickers & chipboard are too big, so I'd either have to do rubons or type it, and I'm not sure how to arrange it so the words are formatted perfectly on the bone.

I am currently searching for a 12 x 12 printer that has great print quality. At present the only thing digital on my pages is the photos (yes I'm a bit behind the times)but I have found myself thinking about digital more and more. We travel a lot and when I get home I'm always overwhelmed by the amount of photos I've taken. Now if I had a laptop, I could work on page elements whilst I'm away - how cool would that be. The only problem is that I wouldn't know where to start with any of this digital stuff - this would be a fantastic starting point!!!

I would love to learn how to incorporate digital into my paper pages. There are so many beautiful layouts that I have tried to copy using only paper and embellishments. But unfortunately they never turn out as beautifully. I believe that by using both I would achieve a completely new level of scrapbooking. Thanks for the chance. April

I love to use overlays and digital brushes on my photos before printing them - so much easier than using rub-ons or stamps to get the same effect. I also love to mat my photos - it's easy to match the color exactly to coordinate with the photo, and add a texture filter to the color block to create your own orange-peel (sandstone) or traditional Bazzill (burlap-reduced) texture. Still, I find that I would love to hybrid more than I do. Seems it is either all Photoshop or all traditional, more often than not. No doubt this book is filled with great ideas.

I'd like to see some detailed articles (maybe a monthly column) on how to combine a multitude of Photoshop/Elements)tools to create special effects (blending modes comes to mind. Maybe the column could have a beginner/simple version of the feature being explored, and a an "add-on" information kit for the more advanced digital scrapbooker.

I love it because I can add certain elements to the page that I wouldn't be able otherwise like for example watermarks. I also use a lot of stiching since I don't really know how to sew in real life. Recently, I have started working with digital including creating my own digital elements, papers and the such. I would really like to learn somemore on hybrid. How to really mix the two together to get the right look. I as several people have said love to feel and see the 3 dimensional paper pages. But digital has a few pluses as well. You can reuse your stuff and you can change the colors and such to match your needs. The best part is I can work for a half hour and not have to drag all my stuff out and then clean up and put it away. Hey...I just like to scrapbook and I don't care how I get there!

I love digital paper. I love the fact that you only pay once and can print it out as many times as you like. I have a wide format printer, so I can print in 12x12. I also like elements like frames and brushes that can be added to photos easily.
I just want to say that this book looks great and it's already on my wishlist!

I have only paper scrapped as of yet. I use a 12x12 layout and my printer does not do large size. I am at a loss of how to use digital scrapbooking. how do you mix the two?

I am a primary paper scrapper... but I do use my computer to do a lot of journaling and manage my photos. I think hybrid scrapbooking is the next step for me to add some of the cool text elements on the photos but still allowing me to use some glue!

I am mostly a paper scrapper but do like to dabble with digital scrapping and adding a few embellishements on the digital page. I usually like to write on the the photos or use digial elements for titles and journaling. I would like to learn more about the brushes and layers.
