2008 Resolutions - Book Giveaway CLOSED
For me, when it comes to my clothes and my scrap supplies, similar rules apply. I organize them by style and purpose, put things away that are out of season, and purge on a regular basis. With my clothes, I definitely go by the rule: If you haven’t worn it in over a year, you probably never will…so give it away to someone who might.
This weekend I realized how much this old rule rang true for my craft supplies. One of my resolutions this year is to live a “greener” life. The biggest change I’d like to make is cutting back on waste. When I thought about my craft supplies, I really felt like I was wasting them by not using them. So, I decided it was time to purge. I went through my papers and embellishments, and in a first run through created a pile worthy of donating. (The plan is to give them a teacher friend of mine whose classroom doesn’t have a craft budget).
We’d love to hear what you’ve got planned for 2008! Leave us a comment on this post and you’ll be entered into a drawing for a
FREE
copy of
601 Great Scrapbook Ideas
!! We’ll draw the winner by noon on Friday, January 11th.
Here’s to a new year full of exciting possibilities!

Lots of good things planned for 2008. I too would like to simplify, purge the house of 'stuff'. Mostly though we're tackling the garden this year. Trying to grow some veggies along with our fruit trees. Nothing like home grown fruits and veggies!

My 2008 resolution is to cut back on the amount I spend on scrapbook/craft products. I'm doing this in part for the obvious monetary reason. But, in addition, I tend to have a hard time making time to do all the scrapbooking/crafting that I to do, and often by the time I get around to a project where I could use some of the products I bought awhile ago they are no longer to my taste.

I am resolving to use more of what I have and enjoy the process more. I tend to stress over projects, and I need to get over myself and just relax and enjoy the process as much as the results.

This is my year of "comfort and joy", so while I'm not going to be PURGING my scrap supplies, I am going to be taking the time to finally use them. I'm also redefining the way I scrap- my main focus now is not a beautiful page, but to get my photos in the book and the stories told. Sure, I'll embellish and use beautiful paper, but I won't spend more than an afternoon on a page. I just can't agonize over it anymore- I want scrapbooking to become the joy and fun it was when i first started.
I'm also rediscovering watercolor paints- I bought myself some really amazing ones for Christmas and a bunch of masks and I'm going to town. So much fun!

My goal in 2008 is to simplify. I want to be able to enjoy life and not be so stressed. This also applies to my scrapbooking. I want to simplify by organizing my scrap room and donating what I don't need or will never possibly be able to use. I really would love to get my gal pals that don't scrap to use my extra supplies to try scrapbooking at no cost to them!

I have 2 resolutions this year.
1. Spend less and scrap more. I have so much stuff in my scraproom that it is unreal.
2. To get into our house this year. Tired of renting and it not being ours. Just want to finally put down roots

I am going to try out Ali Edward's One Word for the year and I chose mine to be: LIVE.
By this I want to spend my time on my life rather than extraneous endeavors - more time with my kids, husband, family, crafting (which I love), learning new things or improving on things I know .... in other words spend more time on the FUN stuff. Oh, and clearing out my stashes of 'junk' wouldn't be bad either!!! Especially since I am pregnant with my third child - we will need the room.

My goal for 2008 is to declutter the house of old clothes, toys, books, plastic storage containers, etc. and not buy something just because it is on sale. So far so good. I didn't buy a lot of stuff from the after-Christmas sales if I didn't really need it.

On Jan 9 2004-July 2006, I lost 100 lbs. I have gained some back, but my resolution is to get back to goal and scrap my journey. So tomorrow...Jan 9th, I will take a picture/measurements/ect and start over. I met my goal then and met Richard Simmons & he put me as a success on his site. But I want to be a success to me and scrap my journey, not just pictures but thoughts/struggles & joys. This book would give me awesome abilities.......

Like many others, my goal is to not purchase as much and to use what I have, but I have a unique technique that I'd love to see others adopt. I actually began this a few months ago: I keep track of the amount of money that I spend on scrapbooking supplies each month and donate the same amount of money to a charity. This keeps my spending reasonable because I know I am actually "spending" twice as much AND it helps others as well.

My resolutions for 2008 are to spend less money on scrapping supplies. It sounds sacreligious I know, but I really need to ct back and save more money. And on more of a goal note, I am creating a calendar page a month to document my year so that at the end of the year I can look back at all of the things I have done and see what my daily life was like.

I would just LOVE to be organized, not just in my scrap booking, but in my whole life. I would like to be able to find everything that I need. Not have 10 of everything, because I can't find it. This is something I have wanted since I had kids, now my oldest is 18 and I still have not accomplished this aspect in my life, if anything I have gotten less organized. Clean and organized life is not to late to get done in 2008.

I have gone through and reorganized my suppies. I have a lifetime of photos that were packed into 2 64 gallon totes and shipped from Florida following my Ex Husbands funeral. He died unexpectedly at the age of 48. I now have the huge undertaking of scrapping 17 years of marriage and the birth and lives of our 3 sons who are now grown.
I have decided to tackle this in 2008 and use all my stash to do so. Alot of pages will be done in triplicate as I want each son to have his own book.
They know I am working on it and will get it when I pass on, its a labor of love for them and they look at what I have done when they visit.
I also need to scrap my youngest sons Army life, he is on his 3rd tour of duty in Iraq at age 23 he has 4 purple hearts and is a sergeant.

This year I want to spend more time as a whole family. Our two kids are spaced fairly far apart in ages and we often split up so each child is doing something appropriate for their age. Now that the little one is two, I hope to find more activities that we can all do together! As for scrapbooking, I resolve (again) to set some time aside each week to scrap. I have a very hard time doing this, as I think many people agree. Happy new year!

With 5 grandchildren who love art supplies I am constantly in debt buying crayons, paper and other such items for them. However, having such an abundance of supplies in my "scrappy" room which has always been pretty much off limits for them now has a basket of supplies with their own table and chairs so they can 'scrappy' too. It is much more fun for them to use Gram's special things and it keeps them busy for longer periods of time too!

My goals in 2008 are simple: simplify my life more - reorganize my work/craft space, go through my "stuff/horde" and either use or donate embellishments/paper that I do not think I'll use, finish scanning heritage photos and start scrapping them, along with family stories. And, hopefully, do the same process in my house.

My first goal of 2008 is to MAKE memories with my family. I want to spend more time with family and then scrap those awesome fun times we've had. Last year I spent more time scrapping OLD photos then having fun with them making more, and this year I have a granddaughter to spend time with too. I plan on making 2008 more green and more streamlined. I will make a point to use more of my supplies plus at least 50% of my new projects will be all digital to avoid more waste and to make use of all the lovely digi-scrap kits that I have! Any non digital supplies that I don't use within 4 months will be donated to my niece what at 6 years of age is dying to learn to create scrap books.

My resolution is to organize my mind in terms of scrapbooking. I've got bits and pieces of papers and notes everywhere because I've written down an idea or sketched out a sketch for a layout or written down a cool quote I read somewhere. I would like to get all this crap organized together is some sort of altered book along with ideas I rip from magazines, ads I might see in a magazine, etc. So all my inspiration is together in one spot! I have a great friend who is a great scrapper that is published in this book, and sadly for me I can't afford to buy it! :(

I too have unscrambled my craft room. Having most recently dedicated myself to teaching 4H ladies the fun of scrapbooking, I'm donating most of my excess and several other boxes of excess supplies from friends totally to these young scrappers. That way they don't have to have the burden of purchasing items as we live in a rural area where scrapbooking often is not number 1 in the budget.
So glad to see so many others making their craft rooms green again!

Well, I'm continuing to go through the papers and embellishments I don't use and I'm donating to my local Girl Scouts program to use in their scrapbooking program.
I am also going to make an effort to include more of me in my layouts. As a single Mom of 2 adopted daughters, I have made lots of layouts of them and their adoptions (China and Vietnam) but I have realized that there's not a lot of ME in layouts.
I want them to know me through my thoughts, feelings, ideas, dreams, etc. So, that's my resolution for this year. To have something of me that they can hold onto after I'm long gone.

I don't want just a resolution I want to change my life permanently. I want to be healthy & active. I want to give more & take less, I want to listen more & talk less. I want to scrapbook more and .... well I'll be honest here...I'm really debating the spending less part!!! To put the laundry away when it is done rather than leaving it in baskets because I'd rather scrapbook. Since I've started a new job, gone back to graduate school and spending more time with the family, I haven't scrapped in almost a year. So... I decided to join a Secret Sister program this year and instead of my supplies just sitting in the scrappy room gathering dust, I'm sending a HUGE package EVERY month to her. Since she scraps daily, I know the materials will be put to good use and I'll feel good about making someone's day! Can't wait to see what she does with them!

This year, my goals are to get back into school and finish my degree (ran out of money!); buy a new car (my old one died and I'm sharing my mom's truck); get a job that I like (I'm hoping to get something better!); Spend more time with my family and friends (including keeping up with correspondence!); organize my arts-n-crafts stuff so that I can easily find what I want when I need it - or what I what I need when I want it! (lol)
Also, I have been eating better, and sneaking in a little more exercise - not because I am trying to lose wieght, per se, but I want this year to be all about me being healthier and happier! I really hope to publish some of my poetry and show of my art this year.
*wow* I've got a lot to do, huh? :)

This year I will be welcoming a new baby girl to our family of 3. I am due on the 15th of February!!! My goal is to get caught up on my DS's books and scrap the entire first year of our new little one. I get so behind just keeping up with life but I swear that this year I will do better. Scrapbooking is a huge break for me at the end of the day. Chasing around a 3 1/2 year old all day (I am a SAHM) can get frustrating. Sorting through photos and creating pages reminds me just how wonderful my rambuctious little boy is. I have a feeling that the new little one will be just as fun!
Thank you for all the ideas in the magazine and online. You really are a big help to me when I don't have alot of time but want to create something for my babies to have when they are grown.

I need to get moving on this.I could use all the ideas I can get my hands on.

My goal (again) is to get both of my children's books up to date. I am currently one year behind on each one. I find it difficult to be creative with that much still left to do - sometimes I feel like I just hurry along and end up not liking the pages when I'm finished. I am constantly looking for ideas. This book would be wonderful! Another goal is to not get stressed out over the little things and to make our home a more fun place to be even if it means putting aside my scrapping for another night (but most of the time my 6 yo daughter will sit at her table and "scrap" too).

I'm fortunate enough to have a whole room for scrapbooking, but other projects seem to creep into that space from time to time. My goal for 2008 is to weed out those interlopers, and make more room to both keep my ever-growing collection of scrapbooking supplies organized, and have room for my friends to come over and play, too!

With a surprise from my husband, I have almost completed my project I set out to do in 2008. Project...Set up my own in-house Studio. He managed to locate a receptionist desk. It is a half circle that includes counter space as well as 2 tiered shelves. Leg space + room underneath for 12x12 paper drawer racks. It measures over 12 feet long. This has saved me hundreds of dollars on the cabinetry I was going to buy. Not to mention the time to save for all of it. Now I can finish up a few small things and enjoy scrapbooking with my grandchildren.

After finally moving into a room dedicated to scrapbooking, I had the perfect chance to reorganize and reaquaint myself with the supplies I had on hand. My goals for the year 2008 is to try new techniques, refine the ones I have already tried and to share, share, share. A good friend of mine has never scrapped before, so I am going to introduce her to something that is fun, fulfilling and relaxing...and of course sharing my extra things with her. I am truly looking forward to this coming year.

I have 4 kids and a husband who all need me. At times I feel like I don't get special "alone" time with any of them. So, I started scheduling time with each person. Each person gets their own "day" of the week (monday-friday) where they get some undivided time with just me. Their day of the week stays the same every week, so we can plan fun stuff ahead of time. It can be something big, or just 30 min. playing a board game. I look forward to special times with my family this year!

One of my goals for 2008 is: To be a better consumer. I am bad about buying lots of things, feeling guilty & then returning them. I am going to make a conscious effort to better stick to my budgets (FYI, this happens with groceries too, not just scrapbooking supplies) & pay attention to what I want to buy & why. Whether I will really use it or just want it. Focus on using what I have & not buy so impulsively. I will also being trying to use up what I have before just buying the "latest & greatest" because it's the "latest and greatest."
The 601 book would be awesome because another one of my goals for 1008 is to start (and hopefully finish) my family heritage album. With the very recent death of my familys patriarch, this has suddenly become very important to me.

Second, I want my scrapbooks to be like the rest of my life and that is simple. I spend way to much time, energy and money on one page. I'm challenging myself to get more pages done in a crop but still be creative and not looked rushed.

My New Year's Resolution is to do more scrapbooking, stamping, and cardmaking than I have been. I'm going to have more "me" time. Hopefully that doesn't sound selfish! The way I'm going to purge through some of my scrapbooking supplies is to give as gifts for birthdays and such to people I know will enjoy them and get use out of them. Also I haven't been using much patterned paper on cards lately and so I think I'm going to start doing that more, so I will be using some of the papers that have just been sitting around. I'll have more scraping get togethers with friends because that's lots of fun and relaxing. We owe it to ourselves!!

My goal for 2008 is to have our "new" family scrapbook done. Along with each child to have their own scrapbook completed. Why I say "new" is that we are currently in the process of adopting 4 children! Therefore, making us a sweet family of 8! We have two teens by birth, then the 4 young ones (5, 3, 2, & 1yrs. old) in which we are adopting. Three of these dear little ones are siblings, one with special needs due from sever abuse. I also plan on making a special book about the sever effects of Shaken Baby Syndrome and Traumatic brain injury and what it does to a healthy born infant, whom now has cortical visual impairments, blind in his left eye, is on a feeding tube, has Cerebral Palsy and is left with 1/3 of his brain. He set me up with two pegboards which he framed and hung on the wall on either side of my new embellishment center(which he gifted me for Christmas). All of my tools of the trade, embellishments, cardstock, paper, die cut machines - you name, I have it - are within reach and in sight. My son and only child, a 2nd Lt. MP in the United States Army, deployed Jan 5th (4 days ago) to Baghdad, Iraq. I just started to create my scrapbook/journal of his deployment in a 12 x 12 D-ring album. I plan to put EVERYTHING in there in a mix of 12 x 12, 8.5 x 11, and 8 x8 page protectors. (smile) I'm really excited about it and worked on it yesterday for the first time. It was SO therapeutic! I became totally focused on my paper choices, colors, the placement of the page elements, my journaling, etc., and for a little while I didn't think about the war. Any military mom will tell you that beneath our cool, calm, exterior lies a broken heart and tears just waiting to spill over - usually in the privacy of a morning shower. So any distraction from the news is a BIG bonus. :-) I've scrapped (no pun intended) my original plan to not buy any new supplies this year because I want to make this deployment album extremely special. Last weekend, just after my son deployed and I was a bit of a wreck, my dear husband even offered to drive me to the local sb store because he knew how happy it makes me to be there. :-) So I'll spend 2008 waiting, hoping, praying and scrapping my little heart out. Happy New Year to you all and God Bless our Troops!

I want to be able to use what I have in more creative ways. I'm new to scrapbooking and I've done the beginner mistake of buying too much stuff I don't know what to do with. So my goal is to use what I already have and enjoy the process and making new scrapbooking friends along the way.

I am resolving to simply scrap MORE! I have so many supplies and ideas and just need to make more time to enjoy them.

As others have said, I hope to use what I have in 2008. And what I don't feel I will use, I donate to the hospital (where I am chaplain) scrapbooking group for Moms and Dads when their babies are born early. This group meets bi-weekly on Saturdays. Families can scrapbook about their baby's 'small step' progress--off a ventilator, off oxygen, feeding tube out, first bottle, etc.
I also want to return to my son's scrapbook--lots of pictures and stories to tell!

I plan to try new things and step out of the box more in my paper crafting! I'm so inspired by the wonderful layouts and projects I see. I want to really open myself to all the possibilities!

one of my goals this year are to find out more of what my daughter was born with and figure what it is excatly doctors have to do. my husband has really opened my eyes on what good researching can do on the internet. my other goal is to get inspired by something or somehow and get my book rolling. im working on my first book and had all these cool ideas at the begining but now im "stuck". so hopefully i see something or read about something that will inspire some layouts...pictures..and all that good stuff!

I have a few scrapbooking goals for this year. One of them is to start my own blog. I have been avoiding it, thinking it was too hard but it wasn't. I started on it Dec. 30th and now have a working blog for my Mom to read about the day to day events of my family while she is spending the winter in FL and for her to see the layouts that I do since we do not live that close together.
I was pleased to see that she actually looked at the blog and figured out how to post on it. She made my day with that short blog post.
Happy New Year and happy scrapbooking.

My "self challenge" for this year (the word resolution isn't strong enough!) is to move beyond fear. As a creative person, it is very easy to have fear of what otheres might think of my art, whether it be my music or my scrapping. I've challenged myself to do things in opossition of my fear, not only to make some dreams come true this year and become a better person, but also to be able to show my kids that fear should never hold you down from what God has put in your heart and gifted you to do.
I jokingly told my husband that I would be published for my scrapbooking in 2008...I guess I should submit something soon....:o)

Continue to sort through my scrapbook supplies, get rid of what I don't use and focus on using the remaining items.

I am resolving to use the product I have here which is loads and loads of stuff. I am also giving myself permission to let go of the perfect page and embrace errors. My children and their future children will not care about a little error in 20 years, they will care that I created our life stories.

My goals are to finish several books that I have started without purchasing anything new. My stash is huge and I really enjoy purchasing more and more, but this year I plan to use all my earlier "must have" purchases before I get more.

My goal this year is to get caught up. I have so many supplies and never have the time to scrap. So this year I have vowed before I buy anything else I need to use what I have! So I will be using the stuff "I had to have" and donating some of the portions that have no become outdated etc to the local school.

Something I started in 2007 and will continue to do in 2008 is to use up supplies I already have for as many projects as I can. The problem is when you go into a SB store and see the beautiful new papers!!

I purge scrappy things twice a year and donate to a hospital in Washington State that has a high risk pregenacy ward. Mother to be that are on total bedrest until delivery. One of the nurse that scraps started buying supplies for with her own money so the mom's had a craft to do during their long waits. It has grown to quite a scrapping club! I love to know I am helping to introduce others to the wonderful world of scrapbooking!

Hmmmmmm - what have I planned for '08? First of all, for POSITIVITY. No more negative thoughts, words or actions for me. I've decided to keep a journal (so far, so good!) I've also planned on making mini albums - wish me luck!

My goal for 2008 will be to complete a scrapbook for each of my 5 brother in laws and 2 sister in laws of their family photos while growing up. My husband and I have been married for 24 years and did not have any photos of him prior to our marraige. Recently, one uncle gave photos he had taken over the years to a brother in law. He then shared them with me. Since their father has passed away, I think it would be a great gift to give them back memories of their younger days.

My daughter is a high school senior this year, so I want to do a life in review album for her Graduation party. This is going to take going through lots of pictures and school memories to make this special keepsake for her. Plus start documenting the college process which means I need to take more pictures and start scrapbooking them instead of procrastinating.
