don't forget dad!
6/14/2008 2:12:40 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00) You don't have to create something time-consuming and elaborate to make Father's Day special. Keep the design simple and spend more time writing a meaning note. He'll appreciate and love the fact that you took the time to make something unique just for him. I created both of these cards in about 30 minutes with patterned paper, ribbon, brads, buttons, and sticker letters. christy cardmaking

Birthday Card from the Noteworthy Collection
6/13/2008 10:03:34 AM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00) I made this birthday card for my mom today. She's coming down to visit me on her birthday weekend! Since she'll be on the road soon, I thought it would be safe to post this blog before I give her the card. I made it from the Noteworthy collection from Making Memories. I love how easy it is to match and coordinate all of the embellishments and papers. One of my favorite things about making cards for people is trying to capture their personality in the card. My mom likes bright colors, but her favorite one is purple. I incorporated those purple accents with the patterned paper and ribbon. The next time you make a card or a layout for someone, try to create something that reflects their personality. This is the inside corner of the card. Isn't the Noteworthy metal signage adorable! Supplies: Patterned paper, flower, ribbon, metal signage: Making Memories Ink: Clearsnap Rub-on: Crate Paper Misc.: paint, button brads, staples Create something. Inspire everyone. back to basics: paper and scissors
6/13/2008 9:12:04 AM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00) I love digital and hybrid scrapbooking because it's fast, less mess, and I can take my computer anywhere to do it. But, when I haven't worked with paper, scissors, and my Tombo Mono Adhesive (I LOVE this stuff) in a while I start to experience some serious withdrawal symptoms :) There is just something so different about tearing paper, layering embellishments, adding dimension, painting, etc. My cousin just had a beautiful baby girl about 2 months ago. I haven't had the chance to meet her, but will see her at the wedding in a couple of months. I couldn't wait to create a layout about little Bella. I was also excited because this is my first baby page. Talk about breaking out of my traditional patterns and colors. It was tough going through my supplies to find that I barely had anything pink and yellow or for babies. I normally love to do multi-photo layouts, but my focus was to make this more of a home decor project for my cousin. It would be so adorable in a 12x12 shadow box in the baby's room. I made little pockets at the bottom of the layout with three journaling prompts so that the happy parents could write little notes to Bella. They read 1.) We love your... 2.) You make us... 3.) We hope & pray... This layout took me about 30 minutes. My main techniques were layering paper, ribbon, and embellishments. I gave the layout added dimension by adding thick pop dots behind the photo to lift it off the page. Happy Friday and have a wonderful weekend! Inspired by the Ordinary
6/12/2008 11:15:25 AM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00) Last week, I blogged about finding inspiration in the ordinary.
My creative prompt was: Find inspiration in the everyday objects you
purchase or even with something you have around your house. Look at the
packaging and mimic the colors, textures and fonts. Pick something that
grabs your attention and inspires you.
As I was flipping through the latest issue of Real Simple, I was inspired to do a layout that looked similar to an article I found in it. They used dots to point to specific parts of the object and a similar heading at the top of their page. Here's the digital layout I created based on my new favorite fruit drink, Cranergy.
This is a simple page. I didn't even use any embellishments. The most important thing to remember is your inspiration can come from anywhere. Where have you found your inspiration today?
Create something. Inspire everyone. GinaMarie

handmade goodies
6/11/2008 9:25:08 AM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00) This week I am making handmade gifts to give my bridesmaids at the rehearsal dinner. I bought small bars of peppermint tea tree menthol handmade soap from Good Fortune for my bridesmaids and as a favor for each guest. I bought them without the traditional packaging so that I could decorate them to match the wedding colors. It smells so yummy! I wrapped each bar differently so that each girl gets something a little different. What I love most about buying my soap from Good Fortune (besides the fact that it's only made with high-quality, natural ingredients) is that Good Fortune gives back to charities when specific items are purchased. And the web site allows you to donate a bar of soap, wash cloth, and a message of kindness to an orphanage, women's shelter, or women and orphans in South Africa. How awesome is that? :) I also put together a little stationery pack with some of my favorite stationery and some of my handcrafted cards. Something different for each bridesmaid. Here are three of the six. The soap idea would be great favors for an evening dinner party or baby shower! Wrap the them to match the theme or color palette. Even making a few cards or beautiful tags make a wonderful priceless gift. Oh, and if you like inspiring stories, check out Good Fortune's story and blog to read how Good Fortune started out of a woman's home with a dream to make the world a better place. christy cardmaking | gift ideas

a trip down memory lane
6/9/2008 9:05:44 AM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00) Good Morning! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. It was a beautiful, hot weekend in Cincinnati after a week filled with some terrible stormy weather. Here is a picture of Saturday's sunset. Two weekends ago, Luke and I spent the weekend at my parents house. It was a really busy weekend planning for the wedding, driving another hour to see my sister's new house and trying to find some peace and quiet in the country. As I was preparing to rest for the night and grabbing some extra blankets, I noticed my granparents old cedar chest. It has been forever since I've opened it. Partly because I don't get home as much as I'd like, but mainly because I find it hard to look through it because I miss them so much. I came across some wonderful things that I remember seeing in my grandparents house for many years growing up. All of which evoked so many special memories. The smell of cedar, old photos of my grandparents wedding and my grandpa in uniform, candles from their first communion, baby shoes and so much more! Here are some things I brought back to Cincinnati with me. My grandmother's old table runner. Love the detail! My grandmother's old handkerchiefs. I am using the blue one for the "something blue" on my wedding day. A quilt that my grandmother made. Lately, I have been so inspired by Lisa Tutman-Oglesby's quilts that I think I am going to give quilting a try! I've got the perfect project in mind. I loved my trip down memory lane! I hope that this week you'll feel inspired to dig up some old treasures that remind you of someone special or of some wonderful childhood memories. You never know what kind of inspiration you'll find—maybe it's just what you need to get your creative juices flowing. Have a great week! christy

Check out the Wanderlust Revealed feature. Sneak Peek:Tip #9—Save maps. In whole or in part, they’ll add a unique touch to your layouts later. ( Idea: I recently incorporated a map on a collage I created (see below). To capture a textured, collage-like look on a layout, you can use the same technique I did. Here’s how: Adhere your piece of map using gel medium. Use Vaseline on the places you’d like the map to show through. Then, paint over the entire map surface with acrylic paint. When the paint dries, you will be able to wipe away the areas you covered in Vaseline, revealing sections of your map.) As always, please leave comments and let us know what you thought about this issue. We truly enjoy hearing your thoughts/suggestions/ideas. Flocked and Foiled: Find Inspiration in the Ordinary
6/3/2008 2:23:06 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00) It seems like nowadays you can coordinate anything to match the décor of your house. Even Kleenex boxes have become hip and trendy and are sporting textures that you can find on a lot of scrapbooking paper right now. Check out these flocked and foiled boxes that I picked up at Target the other day. These are not the kind of Kleenex boxes that you would find in your great Aunt Edna’s bathroom.
This week’s challenge: Find inspiration in the everyday objects you purchase or even with something you have around your house. Look at the packaging and mimic the colors, textures and fonts. Pick something that grabs your attention and inspires you.
I will be heading out to the Great American Scrapbooking Convention in Arlington, Texas this week, but I will post a layout next week with a picture of my inspiration. Look for an object this weekend and join me in finding inspiration in the ordinary.
Create something. Inspire everyone. GinaMarie

new to scrapbooking?
6/3/2008 10:05:26 AM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00) Last Thursday I got together with one of my dearest friends, Brittany. It had been several months since we've seen each other. Life is so busy these days!! When deciding what we should do I threw out the idea of a paper, scissors and glue night. She brought pizza and lots of photos and I provided the basic papercrafting essentials. Brittany had never scrapped before. So, like most beginners she was quite overwhelmed with my stash of product and questions like "where do i start." Being an artist myself, I realize that art is the freedom to create what's on your heart, so I told her "the sky's the limit". I gave her a few books and Memory Makers Magazines for inspiration and she went to work. I love her finished layout. It's simple, bold, and most importantly, she let her creativity do all the work. Watching a first-timer it really made me think of why I scrapbook... to tell my story, record the moments that I don't want to ever forget, and to leave a bit of family history for future generations. Know anyone who might find some hidden artistic ability that lies deep
inside? Maybe someone who just wants to tell their story? My challenge to you: next time you get together with some friends, host a craft night and introduce them to scrapbooking. They'll thank you for the opportunity! If you're just getting started, check out the Getting Started section of our Web site for some great tips. Have a great day! Christy getting started

make note of this simple gift idea
5/29/2008 8:45:33 AM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00) On Monday morning I was welcomed to work by a colorful surprise on my desk ... a sampling of the new Making Memories' Noteworthy line. For me, it was love at first sight. The colors, patterns, paper with scalloped, round, and die-cut edges all had me itching for some creative time (something I haven't had much time for lately). Being in wedding mode, I decided to craft a little memory book for my upcoming bridal shower. I guess now would be a good time to tell you that I got engaged in March and getting married in September... :) The colors of the new line were perfect for this project, green for the
color of the wedding and pink and purple to add a romantic touch. I
even used part of the packaging (from the brads) as you can see on the
inside front cover of the tabbed, chipboard book (by Zsiage). Want to win the Noteworthy collection? Click here! Know a bride-to-be? This would make a darling gift for the next bridal shower you attend. Have a wonderful day!! christy gift ideas

Noteworthy Giveaway!
5/28/2008 2:04:02 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00) To enter the giveaway, post your response in the forum by clicking here. The
winner will receive a Making Memories’ prize package of the new
Noteworthy Collection, and will be announced on the morning of Tuesday, June 3, 2008
in the forum. Make sure to check out Making Memories’ blog for additional product information and inspiration. I was so inspired by the colors and patterns of this line, I couldn't wait to create a layout with this collection. It can fit every style from clean and classic to graphic and trendy. I played off of the briliant colors in this collection by adding text to my pictures in Photoshop that matched the colors in the line. Tip:In order to get a cropped image with text to print at any photo lab, open up a blank white document in photoshop that is 4x6 and 300 dpi. Place your cropped picture on the white background and add the text you want. After you've added text, flatten your image and print it off at any photo lab. This is will ensure that cropped photos will not be stretched into a 4x6 photo format. Supplies: All patterned paper and embellishments were from the Noteworthy line. Adhesives: Tombow Pen: EK Success Create something. Inspire everyone. GinaMarie layout inspiration | Photo Printing
