Love All, Serve All ... the Hard Rock Cafe philosophy
11/9/2007 1:26:14 PM (Eastern Standard Time, UTC-05:00) Happy Friday, y'all! In the spirit of gratitude, and because I'm just darn glad to be alive, I offered to organize a company-wide Thanksgiving potluck for later this month. The company is graciously providing the main course and we employees will provide the rest of the feast. (It feels great to do something that everyone will appreciate.) I was reminded of the Hard Rock Cafe's slogan—Love All, Serve All—a couple weeks ago when I visited the Hard Rock in Indianapolis. And being part of the scrapbooking team here at MM, the sign-up sheet I created had to be scrappy. I know you can't see the details, but that's our sign-up sheet above. I just posted it yesterday morning and it's practically full of names of people willing (and eager!) to take part. There's a little bit of everything: patterned paper, ribbon, bling, chipboard bursts. That's it from me for this week. Must get back to editing the March/April issue. Wishing you laughter, love and a peaceful weekend, Patty

'Tis the Season...already?
11/8/2007 1:06:48 PM (Eastern Standard Time, UTC-05:00) I was reminded this morning that Christmas is only 47 days away! Now before panic sets in with all of the things you need to do before this holiday season, let me share with you something I’m going to do differently this year. First I need to let you in on a little secret: I always get frustrated when I am shopping for Christmas cards. I can never really find a card that says exactly what I want to say. And when I’m buying them in bulk to send out to my friends and family, I want them to have a personalized touch. Last year, I attempted to make all of my cards. I was very ambitious and started a few, but never finished the entire batch and therefore I didn’t send them out! I was recently on the Shutterfly Web site and found they not only had really cute new Christmas card designs that you can personalize, they also have an option for creating your own. They come in different sizes, and as you can see, I had fun playing with both of the options. Just think about ordering cards that already say exactly what you want to so you don’t even have to write a thing! They are a perfect solution, and if you start now, it will be one less thing on your list before Christmas arrives in 47 days! Okay, I’ll stop saying that because it’s stressing me out too! Create something. Inspire everyone. GinaMarie Supplies for Digital Card: Scrapartist.com: all digital paper designed by Aja Abney (My Wish for You collection) and all digital elements designed by Sarah Batdorf and Angie Briggs (Whimsy Style collection). Edited picture at picnik.comCompiled the entire card in Photoshop Elements.

Baby Love
11/7/2007 1:41:46 PM (Eastern Standard Time, UTC-05:00) Just a quick, simple page I made at our Memory Makers craft time a week or two ago. The cute subject is my perfectly sweet niece, Audrey. Spent some time this weekend with her (oh, yeah, and her parents, too, who these days are Audrey's "support staff"), and she's the smiling-est, happiest baby I've ever seen. Now, I know I'm biased, but I'm not kidding! supplies: Flowers, patterned paper ( Making Memories); Pen ( EK Success); Misc.: adhesive, ribbon Best, Beth

Two-page Love
11/5/2007 11:05:53 AM (Eastern Standard Time, UTC-05:00) I rarely create two-page layouts. Normally, I use one or two photos on a piece of 8½x11 cardstock. During a weekend-crafting spree, however, I decided to make a two-page spread because I wanted to use a number of photos so I could truly illustrate the extent of my book obsession. I created the card pocket using cardstock, and the index card pulls out to reveal hidden journaling. The journaling above the title reads: "To get a true sense of [a] book, I have to spend a few moments inside. I'll glance at the first couple pages, then flip around to somewhere in the middle, see if the laungage matches me somehow. It's like dating, only with sentences. Some sentences, no matter how well-dressed or nice, just don't do it for me. Others I click with instantly. It could be something as simple yet weirdly potent as a single word choice ( tangerine). We're meant to be, that sentence and me. And when it happens, you just know." —From Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Lifeby Amy Krouse Rosenthal Supplies:Cardstock, kraft cardstock Patterned paper ( American Crafts, Prima, Scenic Route) Letter stickers ( Making Memories) P.S. I'm always looking to add to my reading list, so leave me a comment with your favorite book or author or poet! Have a happy Monday, everyone! —Katie

Playing with the Free Digital Kit
11/2/2007 10:30:31 AM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00) Celebrate Digital Scrapbooking Day (November 3) by downloading a free digital kit here. If you download this kit, I think you’ll have much fun as I did playing! I must confess that I’ve always wanted to be a digital girl, but didn’t really think I had the ability to pull all the elements together. That is why kits are such a wonderful thing! All of the elements are already there, you just add your own creativity and voila, a page is born! The only element I changed was the color hue of one of the parentheses because I wanted a little pop of green to tie into the colors of the photo. I used picnick.com to add some effects to the photo and add the text on the photo and the ribbon. I then put everything together in Photoshop Elements, and I’m proud of my first all digital page. Download the kit and start celebrating Digital Scrapbooking Day! Create something, Inspire everyone. GinaMarie Digital kit designed by Corina Nielsen and sponsored by FxFoto.

Wedding Album Update and a Question ...
10/29/2007 1:15:03 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00) Hi friends! As you can see, my daughter's wedding was full of happiness and love. That's me with Megan in the first photo, the bride with two cousins (one she gained by marriage) in the second pic, and the new husband and wife preparing to leave for their weeklong honeymoon at Disney World in the last (hence the ears on the top hat and veil)! And I'm thrilled to report that I'm keeping up with the scrapbook album I began for the kids when they got engaged. I have room for about seven more layouts, and in creating this memory album I've discovered something about what kind of memory keeper I am. On some pages I simply want to put a bunch of photos with captions so I remember all the details. On other pages, I like to put just one or two photos and then play on the layout (adding embellishments, color, etc.) So here's the question: What do you do with your layouts? Come to the forum and let's talk about these two different ways of memory keeping. Peace and love, Patty

Halloween Cards Take 2
10/26/2007 4:18:21 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00) I've been busy making Halloween cards, too, so I thought I'd share. (Note: For my friends and loved ones who will be receiving these cards, I have not yet mailed them, so if you're seeing them here first, I do apologize. Haha. I'll get them in the mail tomorrow!) Supplies: Patterned paper, letter stickers, stickers ( Reminisce) Black cat dimensional stickers ( K&Company) This weekend, I also have plans to bake Halloween cookies, but we'll see how that goes. I've yet to decide on a recipe. And I second what Beth said. I hope your weekend includes some Halloween fun! —Katie cardmaking

Halloween Cards
10/26/2007 9:53:15 AM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00) With Halloween just around the corner, I decided to make cards for family and friends, but wanted the process to be quick and simple. With premade cards as the base, one sheet of Making Memories patterned Halloween paper and complementary 3-D Halloween embellishments, and orange and black cardstock, I created six cards super fast. Here are three of them. Quick and simple, for sure, and just the thing for sending trick-or-treat greetings! Hope your weekend includes some Halloween fun! Best, Beth cardmaking
