Inspired by Your Words, Your Story
Tuesday, November 18, 2008 9:42:43 AM (Eastern Standard Time, UTC-05:00) I’ll be honest: I find journaling to be a chore. I know, it’s surprising, me being an editor and all. I do love writing and reading and editing, but for some reason I can never find the right words to put on a layout.
Enter Your Words, Your Story. One of the things I realized while reading the book was that I put too much pressure on myself to write the “perfect” words; after all, my layouts don't have an editor to go along with them. But the book taught me that the important thing is getting the story on a page—no perfection required. After reading the section called “Just Get It Written,” which includes Michele’s layout (above) chronicling the story of her daughter’s birth, I was inspired to do a layout about the story of my marriage proposal. I took the just-do-it/no-perfection mantra to heart and just wrote and wrote. I didn’t even proofread the story (gasp!) before printing it out. With all the text on the page, I kept my layout design simple: Patterned paper (BasicGrey); vinyl letter stickers (American Crafts) Thanks, Michele, for showing even your editor how to add meaningful journaling to a layout!
