Can this scrap space be saved?
9/7/2007 11:01:28 AM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)

I don’t have a good reason why my scrapping space (which is my living room) looks like this. Perhaps it’s because I love sitting on the floor creating my next project in child’s pose (hey … I do yoga whenever I can these days!). Or more honestly, perhaps it’s because I’m overwhelmed with all the product I have and don’t know where to begin.

But thanks to GinaMarie’s blog yesterday, and all your helpful posts, I’m inspired to do something about this mess. However, I have a specific organizational request: Tell me how you transport pages from one location to another. I often work on things here at home and then need to take them to the office—I want/need some kind of tote to take my pages back and forth.

Send me your tote ideas at Armed and Ready by midnight Thursday 9/13. Then we’ll pick one outstanding, innovative, cool organizational idea (not just about totes but from all the ideas we get) and send that lucky scrapper Making Memories new Embellishment Center (valued at $74.99!). Here’s how Making Memories describes their “epicenter of creativity”:

A large wall-hanging storage unit for all your crafting supplies. This beautiful piece of finished furniture includes: multiple shelves for storage jars or tins, and a dowel for ribbon organization.
(Jars, paints, supplies, etc., not included.)

Here’s a photo of the wall-hanging unit, with our lovely birt
hday-girl GinaMarie!

Looking forward to hearing your ideas.

Peace and love,
 Patty

I would use one of those old photo albums you know the ones with the sticky backing? you could totaly alter the cover and that way your pages would stick down and stay in place as you move them from place to place.

i transport my pages in the plastic things called kfktpages in progress from cropper hopper. that way i don't have to worry about my pages getting ripped or wrinkled. then i just put the pages in progress folders in the shoulder tote from cropper hopper too and away i go.
9/7/2007 1:00:51 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
I actually put my page in a page protector and use the box that my pages protectors came in. I altered it with some patterned paper. It works well for me.
9/7/2007 1:03:12 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
I carry my pages around in a shoulder tote and try to minimize the stuff that I take with me - just what I need for that set of pages. I use ziplocks and other bags to keep the stuff from exploding in the bag

I have a hard plastic 12x12 container (not sure of the brand) that I take pages bavk and forth in. I like it because it is hard, and cannot bend. This way I do not ruin my page. It is fairly large and can hold a lot, so if you are still working on the page and want to keep supplies all together for the page, you have plenty of room.
9/7/2007 1:14:32 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
I carry my pages in progress in a page protector put inside my PINK ART BIN TOTE that also have page dividers in it so I can slip several pages in progress in there. Works great for me at home and taking to crops!

After trying so many different methods for transporting pages, I went back to my beading favorite with a size modification! I bought an old briefcase at a garage sale and then bought some thick foam from the fabric store. I cut the foam to fit inside the top and bottom sections of the briefcase and secured it with some glue. When I'm ready to transport my partially done pages, I just lay them on top of the bottom piece of foam and gently close the lid. The foam from the top half gently lays over the page and holds it all in place so nothing shifts around.

I used to do this all the time for beading projects. Its extremely handy when you're travelling because you can put all different thickness of items in the case, including scissors, tape rollers, papers...and the foam holds everything in place so all you do is open your case and start working.

You can even put in a self-healing mat in your case to give you a hard surface to work on if you don't have space to take things out of your case.

If you can't picture what I'm describing, go to the sporting good store and look at a pistol case. Its the same concept except I have found using solid foam works better than the egg crate in this case.

Good luck.

Do we leave ideas here or at Armed & Ready link above?? Thanks - I'd really like a chance...

I want that cabinet sooo bad. I have it on my wish list at Scrapbook.com! All I need is money. I have the perfect wall space for it.
In answer to the question, I don't move my pages, but I do have to share my workspace with a keyboard. When I am scrapping, the keyboard gets undone and I have a work area. If I don't get through, I have a drawer that I keep "Work in Progress" in and everything is ready the next time I get ready to scrap.
9/7/2007 3:13:32 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
Well I don't really tote mine around that often, but I've heard that the Arccivo is an excellent tool for just that. Also I've seen the new Basic Grey magnetic mat hold layers and layers of items in place on a layout. Thinking I might get one of those!
9/7/2007 4:06:33 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
When I'm goin to a friends house and taking my scrappy pages that I've worked on at home I use my MimiTravelmate Scrap Tote it has 12” x 12” paper organizer to puy the pages in + many pockets to put tools and stuff I need to get it finished!! I love it!!

Another ting u can use is a pocket of your album if you dont need to bring your tools then your also sure than nothing will be ruined on the way!!
9/7/2007 5:01:27 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
So I scrap at home and have not been to a crop because I don't want to show up with all my stuff crammed in a brown paper bag (although I am tempted). =) I will definitely be reading through the comments looking for some inspiration.
My wish list...The Mimi Urban Stamp Tote. It has a removeable 'stair step' storage that you can take out and use at home and then just pack it up into the cool looking tote for your next crop. And it holds so much more that just stamps! Been on my wish list for some time.
The other item on my wish list...the Arccivo. It's a little pricey, but it holds your pages in progress in place while transporting.
These items are large enough to hold everything I want to bring to a crop without looking like I showed up with the kitchen sink. And they would do a lot more for my style that a brown paper bag. =)
Good Luck with your Organizational Quest.
9/7/2007 5:28:39 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
I put mine first into a xlarge plastic ziplock bag...then I put it into the 13 x 15 (free) USPS postal box and put that into a shoulder tote...works great!
9/7/2007 7:13:57 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
I keep my layouts in a sheet protector and put them in my cropper hopper so that each of the layouts I'm working on don't get mixed up with one another and they won't get messed up along transport.
9/7/2007 7:45:26 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
I use trays from places that bring in our lunches. They are sturdy and hold everything that I need to carry for whatever pages I am working on to where ever I am working. the cleanup is also easy because all I have to do is pick up the tray because everything is in there already. I have quite a collection, so what project I am working on, I just get that tray and I am ready to get started.
9/7/2007 8:17:34 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
I use the boxes that my online orders come in....they are the perfect size and with clever use of ziplock baggies, I can keep all of my items together and able to be pulled out at a moments notice. With my kids starting back to school this week, my personal time has dwindled to almost nothing so anything that saves time (and hides my mess) is a welcome idea :)
9/7/2007 8:33:28 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
I put mine in my album if i am taking it anywhere - Or i will sit it in a pizza box (I have TONS of them from buying so much stuff online! They are great for adding other stuff in that you might want to use on the page too - they fit quite a bit in them!!
9/7/2007 9:16:51 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
I transport my layouts by putting them in a Cropper Hopper Vertical Paper Holder, and then putting that in my K&Co. Amy Butler Sola Tote. The bag is ultra comfy, and since the paper holder is sturdy, my layouts fit right inside without getting damaged. This also adds more structure to my bag, so it become free standing when I put it on the floor.
9/7/2007 9:22:36 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
I of course want to win the prize - but my tip is not a very good one. I too take pages from the basement to the dining room or from home to a girlfriends house and unfortunately my system of transport is attached to my body. It is my hands (and occasionally arms too). This "tote" is not very reliable though - usually I end up with pieces of my project strung from here to there. I end up stepping on a brad or someone uses my photo matt that they found on the stairs for a paper airplane.
I am so glad to have found this posting - maybe I too can get myself a better "tote".
9/7/2007 11:05:59 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
I like to scrapbook on my family room floor - unfortunately, my husband doesn't appreciate it if I leave my supplies out for long periods of time(I wouldn't know why - lol!). I bought a 3-ring binder scrapbook with durable pages that I store my pages in even if they are not complete. The nice thing is, you can also put your embellishments in the same protector with the page, and we you are ready to work again, all the supplies (and pictures) are together - also makes it nice because you can place sticky notes on the page protector with ideas/sketches/etc.

One word - Archivvo!!
9/8/2007 2:54:04 AM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
I use a hard plastic tote that zips up and has 5 dividers. This way the paper doesn't get bent and you have extra places to add embellishments and tools. Thanks for a chance at this awesome Memory Maker New Embellishment Center.

Well,I just put them in a pizza-box with dividers, tht's it!
Very cheap and it is doing it for me.
I often do LO's with 3-D stuff on it,with this system nothing gets pushed togehther!
9/8/2007 10:29:21 AM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
I have a couple of one page 12 x 12 folders that are like a large envelope with a clip on them .. these are great for one page.. if i have more than one its a couple of these folders in a pizza box. good luck finding what you are after :)
9/8/2007 10:54:20 AM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
I have a mimi shoulder tote that works great but I also just use the plastic folders that are designed to hold pages in progress!
9/8/2007 10:56:32 AM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
I transported all of my 12x12 paper (during our last move)in pizza boxes that I had labeled with what was inside. It worked perfectly and none of my 12x12 papers were ruined. I would recommend this for any time you need to transport a layout or project you are working on!
9/8/2007 12:39:51 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
Yoweee! This is no little blog goodie this is a blog banquet! For my papers I have a box I put them into, with a file holder. They sell them at the office supply store and you can put them in color order, or name. I also have a shopping cart (similar to the new suitcases on wheels) only this chart is a wire cart you can pull behind you when you walk to the grocery store. I works great and is also OK to just leave your boxes in for a while. My DH built me a stamp area in our attic and I leave everything in there now. I also like to spread out on the rug and organize things, or work. Its just a huge area to work with. LOL

That cabinet looks absolutely gorgeous!

When I am transporting page from one place to another I usually store them in a sheet protector and then in an MM storage system (the ones that come with the MM totes). That way they don't get mangled and I can keep all the extra papers and embellishments in the same box. ;o)

What a great opportunity for a nice organizing unit!

I use the clear, heavy envelopes. Each envelope holds the pictures, papers and any embellishments that are needed for the project. Two projects means I can grab two envelopes. It works for me! :)
9/8/2007 8:14:17 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
I have a 12x12x2 plastic page container. as it comes with dividers I can transport upto 15 LO's -- if smaller embellies I put in little baggies right on top of each pages set up. Even if I place the box on end nothing gets lost or bent. It works for me although the arccivo would be one cool item to have but not sure how many LO's can hold at once, so it head ing to a corp and have things planned the box works for me.
9/8/2007 11:04:23 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
I use the 12 X 12 Cropper Hopper Page Planners. They are heavy-duty plastic with a few dividers. When I am planning a page, I can put all the supplies needed for it in there. Then, I have the Making Memories Carry-All, which is similiar to a nice size shoulder bag, but larger. I place my page planners in it with a few basic supplies (adhesives, scissors, etc.) and I'm ready to go. My MM rolling crop bag is always packed in the car and ready to take out for events, but the Carry-All, with it's long shoulder strap goes in and out the house easily.
Thanks for sharing with us!

I've been looking for a good solution too myself and have decided on using Cropper Hopper Page In Progress Envelopes. I use Cropper hopper for storing 12x12 and also ribbons so I really am happy with their products.
9/9/2007 1:44:23 AM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
Pizza boxes are the perfect size for scrap pages. They are also sturdy and take a lot of abuse. To top it off, they're free (if you ask nicely). What more could you want?
9/9/2007 9:53:15 AM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
I love the Croppin' Companion page planners - they have a center space for 12x12 & 6x12 pocket on both sides for pics, embellishments, etc.
They sell a binder that you can use to transport them, but I believe you could use a Crop in Style PSB if you already have one.
9/9/2007 11:58:12 AM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
When moving a page in progress, I place inside a 12 x 12 file folder and paper clip shut and then place in a Iris square box and try not to tip it! But, I have lost many pages so I also quickly sketch my layout on a post-it and attach to the file folder!! I love the idea of the thick foam in the breifcase!
9/9/2007 3:25:58 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
Arccivo,Arccivo,Arccivo!! This is so great because it holds the pages as you put them in there even if they are assembled or adhered! If you lay a photo in the upper right hand corner and throw it in the car, when you get home it's still in the same right hand corner!!
9/9/2007 5:31:10 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
Well this may sound strange but I use a 12x12 PIZZA box(never used for pizza of course) They fit perfectly in any tote. I use 1 for pages, c/s, pp, and all of my kewl Making Memories embellishments. I have a 2nd box for stamps, ink pads etc. They are really great and when I get home I can still keep them in the box until I am ready to work on them and it keeps little hands off unglued/unfinshed layouts.

I find that the most economical way to "kit-out" and move pages either undone, incomplete or complete to and from one place to another is by using the plastic bags that you can get from your LSS. Usually that's how they pack up the cardstock and patterend papers so you can take them home, well, they are just as useful once at home. I'll kit out projects for use at home or if I am going to a crop I'll take the whole packet with me. I find it to be a lightweight, inexpensive and environment friendly way to use the bags and, of course, it keeps me really organized and protects my finished work until I get home. In addition, I use the Creative Memories Memory Mate Project tote to carry the packets. I always seem to be the one taking the least stuff to crops, expos, and classes but its only the stuff I need and nothing more. That's my system.
9/10/2007 3:17:26 AM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
I would take one of those iris plastic boxes and put everything in it. I do that sometimes when I go to my sisters. I have a bunch of totes, but just that plastic box, that almost anything can fit in, is just easy. I also use those page in process boxes, and I have one of those arrcivo totes also. But seem to always go back to the box.
9/10/2007 12:39:39 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
hi there! What I did was take a cheap 12x12 clear plastic carrying case with a handle and I decorated it from the inside using paper, modpodge, flower brads, ribbon and my crop o dile which cuts right through the plastic. I even added photos! It personalizes and pretties a functional item. I get so many lovely comments and the best part is that they are so cheap I can make many and use different ones for different seasons and special events.
9/10/2007 12:55:20 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
I usually bring along my AMM tote for supplies but for the pages that I work on when I transport it to my friend's group and home I use a fool-proof method that works for every Thursdays that seem to rain here! I bought some stiff cardboard [like a chipboard but with more thickness from my local art supply store] and cut it into 13x13" square-shape and nailed in Making Memories hinges on one end, then I put in my pages in process in between then use a clip on the other side to hold the two chipboard pieces together [kinda like a folder]. I put that right in my normal bag and nothing has shifted around!! The little pieces such as letterings, stickers, ribbons, buttons that is going to be used on the layout goes in a plastic container. I always make sure I have my digital camera with me to take picture of the layout I was working with and then when I arrive at my friend's house then I re-assemble it as I previously had at home. On occasion, I have sealed the entire thing with an extra large ziploc plastic bag to make it more waterproof when the rain pours heavily.

If I am using multiple pages, I usually put in two or three double pages in one cardboard "folder" or use an empty pizza box, courtesy of my pizza man down the street, and lug the others in a 12x12" plastic compartment from Michael's. I am always looking for other ideas to prevent my work from slipping and sliding around especially the fact that our city rains so much!! So far I've been lucky with my cardboard 'folder'.
9/10/2007 9:15:23 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
Well, I use Craft Keepers to keep everything I am working on together and if I need to transport I use my Amy Butler bag, a tote, and my art box. If I dont have any keepers around or available, I use the 2 gallon size ziploc plastic bags.
9/10/2007 10:33:06 PM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
I use the plastic snap lids, I believe from Iris. There are 6 and a shelving unit and wheels. I put all embellishments and organized things (stamps, chipboard, paints, buttons, eyelets,Family Themes, Sports Themes, etc. One I left empty, I put all the things I use for a crop, I just grab what I need and put the paper in and I'm good to go!
9/11/2007 9:03:50 AM (Eastern Daylight Time, UTC-04:00)
I would say the Arccivo is the way to go, as it holds everything in its place even over the bumpest roads. Then you will walk in to your next crop looking "Oh, so trendy"

Don't waste any more time, go and order yourself one...

Regards,
Sophia

Personally what works the best for me is the drawers that come with my Scrapbook Chest from Iris. This way if I don't have time to put them in their albums they are still safe.
