Mad for Magazines
1/23/2008 1:44:30 PM (Eastern Standard Time, UTC-05:00)
Hi, my name is Beth, and I'm a magazine junkie.
My addiction started back in elementary school, with
Ranger Rick
, random
Teen Beats
and Archie comic books, and escalated to full-blown love in middle school with the Scholastic Book Club's
Dynamite
(Remember that?! Most of you, not so much, eh?) and a subscription to
Teen
magazine, followed by subscriptions (in no particular order and by no means comprehensive at ALL) to
Seventeen, Glamour, Mademoiselle, Victoria
(I'm so glad it's back!),
Weight Watchers, Real Simple, Mode, Parents, Parenting, Time, Sports Illustrated
,
Cottage Living, Country Home, Country Living
,
More, In Style, Oprah
,
Romantic Homes,
Body and Soul
... well, you get the picture. I have a bit of a problem.
But, there's something so wonderful about coming home to find that a new world has been delivered straight to my mailbox, full of whatever it does best—whether it's providing fashion, beauty, inspiration, news, tips, gossip or advice.
My husband said to me last night when sorting through the mail, "Well, it looks like you hit the mother lode. You got three girly magazines today." Pure nirvana. I only got a chance to skim through them yesterday, but tonight I'm going to curl up and indulge my addiction.
What brings delight to your days? Make time to fit it into your schedule this week!
Best,
Beth

I am, without a doubt, a magazine junkie, too. Enjoy indulging tonight. (And those lovely pink cupcakes look fantastic!)

I couldn't agree more! I feel like it's my birthday every time a magazine arrives in the mail. I'll have to check out Country Living...I haven't read that one before.

Beth ~ I believe that I have you same affliction...maybe we should start a support group. I sub to every US scrapbooking mag there is (plus one from Canada) and I also get Blueprint, Better H&G, and Real Simple. I have been really wanting to sub to the new Organize mag and a photography one (maybe Shutterbug) because I was afraid it was just too insane to get that many mags.
I have a question for you...what do you do with your mags once you've read them???

Hi, Jill! Sounds like we're kindred spirits! Depending on the magazine and its contents, I'll save the whole issue (I can't part with Romantic Homes or Victoria!); tear out the pages I love and file them in a file folder labeled into different sections (home, cooking, ideas, etc.); or share the magazines with friends or family.

I laughed out loud when I read your blog! Thank God I'm not alone! I thought I was the only mail-mag addict!

Oh Beth! We have so much in common. I suffer from the same affliction. Mine are mostly decorating magazines and lately I have tried to stick to the ones I really love. Now I've expanded my horizons and I'm buying decorating, craft and cooking books like there's no tomorrow. I have an entire area on my bookshelves devoted to books I have bought and haven't read yet. Let me know if you figure out a good 12 step program. Jen
