Earth Day. Its been a whole week of festivities at Lilli's school. Trying to bring focus to our world in fun, creative ways for the kids.
One of the projects is a Family Recycled Art Project. We had to create art completely from items that can be recycled. Lilli and I brainstormed and I remembered a super-cute mirror frame I'd seen at Urban Outfitters. That one was made with teeny rolled bits of papers. I thought folding would be easier for almost-7yo fingers so we went with a folded magazine bits wreath.
We got to work. Lilli did so great...really doing her best to get everything lined up when she folded all the paper bits, so careful. She was working solid with me through the first magazine. By the time we hit the second one, she was done. Poor baby fingers worked to the bone. LOL :) So Mom is the one staying up tonight to finish it off.
Turned out pretty cute I think. In a random, handmade kinda way. ;)
Lovin' the little family art projects. Can't wait to do more this summer!
Oh, and I hung it on the door to surprise Lilli in the morning. She'll be excited b/c my little clone was worry-warting about it not being done in time for the 1st grade tour.
...Staci :)

Boys will be Boys!!
After a very long winter, I think we can safely say that spring is finally here! We had a few days last week that were good and warm by afternoon. However, by the kids’ actions, you would have thought it was 95 degrees! My oldest and his friends decided the mud holes in our backyard would be perfect for swimming. Such a boy thing to do. Stripping down to shorts only and jumping into muddy, murky water. Ugh. They seemed to have a ball so what mom is going to take away their fun?! After bathing in the brown stuff, squishing it through their toes, and smearing themselves like warriors, it was time to get the hose treatment to wash it all off. I wonder if they were regretting their actions at that point?? Ahh….probably not! Boys will be boys.

Covered Bridges
Just sharing some more photos. There are 11 remaining covered bridges in Alabama...we stopped at two. Diggin' Alabama!

Originally I would leave the kiddos with the husband when I would head out for photo shoots. Now I tote them along. What a superb adventure they make these trips out to be.
A Luna Moth ...and a kiddo a wee bit bummed that I wouldn't let her take it home.

Have a happy scrappy kind of day!

Butterfly Art
Lately I have seen lots of people using butterfly punches to create really cute framed pieces of art. So I thought I would give it a try with some Maya Road Chipboard Butterflies I had from their Butterflies and Bugs Chipboard Set. This little framed piece matches perfectly in my daughter's room. I love it when things come together like this piece did. One little tip I have, that is if you are going to give this a try, once you have the butterflies covered with paper cut a slight slit in the back center of each butterfly with a craft knife then bend the wings upward. This gives the piece some additional demension. Enjoy, Lisa

Using up your scraps
This was so much fun to do! I always keep extra cut-outs of patterned
papers in a small box. I mean, I went through the trouble of cutting
them so I better keep them and use them - right? For this layout, I
just grabbed the bits of paper I have collected in that box and created
a collage. The only paper here that was not from my scraps is the
background cardstock. Creating a page like this help me get my money's worth from my scrapbooking stuff.

My baby...
...is turning 7! I can't believe that this little one we prayed for so long to have and honestly gave up on ever having is turning 7 years old! This parenthood gig is a crazy roller coaster! And of course, I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world! :)
If you know anything about little girls, then you know they are all about parties. Especially birthday parties. Lilli has been planning her party for ages--where to have it, what kind of cake, who gets invited, and on and on for infinity! :) But I think we have it set now for the most part!
Being a crafty girl, you know I wanted to make the party invites! ;) But making 20+ invites for the kiddos in her class didn't sound like a very logical use of my time b/c I know that they'll be smushed into backpacks and be lucky to make it home. LOL :) But the call to the creative side could only be tempered slightly by practicality. Translate that to: I went digi! :) :)
I know! I was shocked too! I love goofing off in Photoshop but rarely do a full-out digi thing. But I did this week! Wanna see? ;)

Gotta say...it was soooo much fun!! :) :) :) So, while I'm feeling digi-lovey-dovey, anybody have any must-see, must-have digi kits? I'll send ya an air-smooch for a link! ;)
Hope you are having a smilie-filled day! ...Staci :)

An American Crafts class at GASC: I love me crazies
I have a 6 foot high stack of boxes in my office filled with supplies for GASC...and still more on the way. Shuffling through, collating, sorting...busy, busy, busy...and getting excited:D Here is one of the class samples that I will be teaching at both the Virginia convention and Tennessee convention:

A fun, fun technique of using paint to create freehand titles. One of my fave techniques! Also a contemporary take on paper weaving! Both fun and versatile techniques:D Looking forward to summer! :D

Just a little pretty...
I recently started playing with some Ten Seconds Studio products. If you have not yet tried this medium you really should give it a go... that is if you like metal. It is so easy and really fast to do. You can keep it very simple like I have and build onto your project or go very elaborate and use it as an art piece all on it's own. I like to build onto my projects as I love the 3D effect. Not sure where I am going to put this little pretty permanently but for now it is hanging next to my desk as it has all my favorite things... ledger paper, vintage rhinestones, glass glitter and pleated blossoms. Products Used: Pages from a Maya Road Heart Binder Book & Coaster Album, Maya Road Scrolls II, Maya Road Trinkets Velvet Pleated Blossoms, Making Memories Ledger Paper, Ten Seconds Studio, Ranger Distress Ink
Wishing you a wonderful day. Lisa

What a fun weekend...
I got to teach 5 classes this past weekend in Danbury, CT. I had a blast and had such a great time teaching new techniques to everyone. If there is one thing I love that would be techniques. Here are a few photos of the album covers that I taught. You will find all kinds of fun things to learn and play with on them. This class everyone got to learn how to make ribbon flowers, play with Ranger Distress Crackle Paint and Inks, learn the many ways of using Stickles, learn to layer, layer, layer and layer patterned paper (because I love patterned paper) and accenting felt with a backstitch. It was so much fun and everyone did such a great job. They decided my motto was "No Stress". I took a training seminar once and it was so stressful I couldn't even cut my paper right, find the embellishments etc. I swore right then and there that I would never have a class like this and so far have kept to my word. Okay next cover... This class was playing with glitter and distress your paper edges and inking. I am always amazed as to how many are afraid of glitter. Do not fear glitter. Glitter is your friend and is a wonderful accent. This one was all about painting, covering chipboard, using a craft knife, stickles and again distressing. It was so cool seeing everyone walk out of each class holding their albums that happened to look just like mine. So if you have these products listed and have not tried them yet break them open and start playing. You are missing out on a lot of fun. My post next week will be about using the Fiskars border punches. If you have these and have not yet used them well get ready for some fun and super easy ideas. Hugs, Lisa

Hello my pretties...
Nothing like some new goodies to make ya feel like scrappin'! I've got lots of goodies to play with, but these tags were calling to me. They're a little "prettier" than my usual vibe, but maybe that's what appealed to me. Even a non frou-frou girl can do a little floral sometimes, ya know! LOL :) Kinda out of the box for me. ;) Not to mention my new fave stamps evah!
So, the journaling...yes, I'm feeling sentimental. Van is growing up so fast, despite her screams to the contrary. She can hollar "I not a big girl...I a baby!" till the cows come home, but she can't stop time from passing. And to be honest, even the hissy fit is testament to the fact that she's almost 3yo! (Hey, this sounds like journaling for another layout! A layout inspired by me chattering about a layout...might be a first! ;) LOL) Anyways, this layout is just me hoping that she'll discover herself a bit and not just take bits & pieces of the other kids experiences/personalities.
Hope y'all are having a great week! Maybe some new scrappin' goodies in your midst too? Don't delay...jump right in...and put 'em to work! :)

A Quick Multi-photo layout
When scrapping vacation photos, I find that using digital frames such as the one below from primahybrid.com is so useful. I just edit the photos and drag it to the ready-made frame, print, and then scrap! This really helps to get the pictures out of my hard drive and into our albums. Have a great day! Iris

me again!
I've been such a bad blogger for the past couple of months that I thought I would try to make up for it! No layout today but inspired by Katie's post on the Magazine Editors' blog, I got out my Picture Perfect Home Studio Kit and did a little photo shoot with my kiddos. Here are a few of Clara (I haven't edited Alex's yet... but he only sat for about seven photos... sigh)... This one isn't as sharp as I would like (its extremely overcast here today and we have a dark house anyway so I had sloooooow shutterspeeds) but I love her genuine expression (I had just informed her that when she puts her head back when she poses, I get pictures of what's inside her nose)... And finally... the signal that our little session was over... Have a great weekend! Tracie
